Canberra 2017-Year 6

Year 6 Sydney/Canberra Educational Tour for 2017 will be held from -

September 10 - 14


  • Ibis Styles Motel, Canberra.

In 2017, the children will travel by Virgin Australia and Murray’s Coaches for the duration of the trip and will stay in hotel style accommodation with all meals (except dinner on day 5) and entry fees included.

Year 6 Trip – Why?

  • To provide children with new experiences
  • To enhance the children’s education of Democracy, Leadership and Government – Linked to the Year 6 Australian Curriculum
  • To encourage increased responsibility


Payment is made through the excursion levy of the school fees. Permission and medical forms along with packing list and additional information will be sent out during Term 2.

Travel or additional insurances are optional for parents to purchase.  Medication will be collected before leaving along with pocket money (not to exceed $60). Emergency contact phone numbers will be provided to parents and students prior to departure.

Friday 15 September is a rest day for staff and students.


  • Our expectations of behaviour and treatment of fellow travellers will be the same as at school – respect, tolerance and instant following of directions is crucial
  • Children will be expected to clean up after themselves
  • Children will be expected to get a good night's sleep
  • Children are to leave credit cards, mobile phones and electrical equipment at home
  • Children do not have access to a phone on the trip
  • Children will act safely and wear seatbelts at all times and stay with their group and supervising teachers
  • Children will be expected not to exceed their spending money limit
  • Children may bring labelled digital or disposable cameras at their own risk


Some days may be slightly different depending on which group your child is in. 

Day 1 - ​Fly to ​Sydney; (Depart Coolangatta). 

Hyde Park Barracks and ​Bridge walking tour; drive to Canberra

Day 2 - Parliament House, Cockington Green and Indoor Rock Climbing

Day 3 - AIS Sportex Tour, Government House, Aust War Memorial and Bowling

Day 4 - Museum of Aust, Sievx Memorial, and Questacon

Day 5 - Electoral Education Centre.  Depart Canberra mid-afternoon heading for Sydney Airport and home.

Below is some information about the trip in 2016.  All children visit the same places however the order they visit them varies according to the bus they are on.

Depart to North Sydney for the Harbour Bridge Walk   

Drive from Sydney to Canberra

Arrive at Sundown Motel

Visit Regatta Point
Depart for National Capital Exhibition Centre - Guided Tour
Depart for Cockington Green - Guided Tour
Depart to Government House - Guided Tour
Depart to Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing

Depart to Australian Institute of Sport - Guided Tour & Sportex
